Program Description

The Dietary Guidelines for Americans is published every 5 years by the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Department of Agriculture (USDA). The Guidelines provide authoritative advice for Americans about how good dietary habits can promote health and reduce risk for major chronic diseases. The 2005 edition of the Guidelines was released on January 12, 2005. In February 2005, NutriGenie releases Nutrition 2005, the first, and so far, the only, nutrition analysis software in existence that incorporates BOTH the September 2002 guidelines issued by the Institute of Medicine, the medical division of the National Academies AND the 2005 Dietary Guidelines for Americans published by the US Department of Health and Human Services. The 2002 Institute of Medicine guidelines establish for the first time a range of recommended amounts (Dietary Reference Intakes or DRIs) for macronutrients — proteins, fats and carbohydrates — and also include advice on how much dietary fiber and how little cholesterol or saturated fat people should strive for to maintain good health. Previous reports from the National Research Council over the last 60 years have dealt only with recommended levels (RDAs) of vitamins and minerals. Nutrition 2005 is NutriGenie's latest and most comprehensive nutrition software with many of NutriGenie unique technologies and analyses, such as star rating of overall diet quality. Each diet is given a star rating from 1 to 5, with 1 being the lowest in quality. Our ratings take into account the latest guidelines issued in September 2002 by the Institute of Medicine, the medical division of the National Academies and the 2005 Dietary Guidelines. The program analyzes nearly 30 nutrients in user's diet and has almost all utilities available in other NutriGenie products. If you wish to choose a single general nutrition program from our catalog, Nutrition 2005 is our recommendation.
